P.O.Mathew / T.M.Abraham








T.M.Abraham: Second Son of P.O.Mathew .Thottathimyalil Mathew Abraham (born 1 June 1949) is an Indian theatre director and playwright. He was vice chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy from 2001-2004 and currently also holds that position.

ProfileT M Abraham was born at Neyyassery - Thodupuzha, Idukki district of Kerala in a Syrian Catholic Christian family to Mr.Ouseph Mathew Thottathimyalil and Aleykutty Mathew. He was the second son among the 11 children in the family.

EducationTM Abraham did his primary education from St. Sebastian School Neyyassery, Thodupuzha. He took his graduation from the University of Kerala. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations.

Offices held
He joined FACT Ltd (Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited) , at the age of 21, as chemist. He was the Manager of Public Relations, FACT Ltd, Cochin, when he retired in the year 2004. He was the Vice chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademy, Trichur from 2005-2007. Hee was also the nominated member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademy and Kerala Kalamandalam from 1995-1998. He is an executive member of the Samasta Kerala Sahitya Parishad. He was the secretary of the Indian Society of Authors, Kerala Chapter from 2002-2004. Currently he is the Secretary of Cochin Theatre Group, a drama group based in Kochi.

One of the renowned Playwright and Theatre Director in Malayalam. Working in the Malayalam Theatre for the last 29 years, and published 14 books in Malayalam in various categories such as novel, drama, monograph, translations etc..

Awards and recognitions

Prize in the novel competition conducted by the Kunkumam weekly in 1975, for the novel ‘Ulpathi’.
Second prize in the all Kerala playwright competition conducted by the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi in 1976, for the play ‘Aekakikalude Thazvara’
Got first prize in the all Kerala Professional Drama competition conducted by the Government of Kerala in 1980, for the play ‘Aham Aham’.
Got the Best Director Award in the all Kerala Professional Drama competition conducted by the Government of Kerala in 1980,Got Kerala Sahitya Akademy Award in 1981 for the play collection ‘Perunthachan’.
Got Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi award in 1993 for the best playwright.
Got the K.C.B.C. Literary Award in 1994, for the one act play ‘Pravukal Eppol Karayunnilla’.
Got V.T. Bhattathirippad award for the play collection ‘Keerimuricha Kannu’ in 2001.
Recipient of the Senior Fellowship by Government of India, Department of Culture, in 2004.
Recipient of the Kala Ratna Award by Kalasadan Thrissur, for his contributions to the Malayalam Theatre, in 2010.
